Houston relocation advice please?

Submitted by Review Editor on Monday, 8 March 20107 Comments

I am moving to the Houston area next month and will be working in Katy, TX. I heard living in Katy is for soccer moms and families, and I am/have neither. Where are the best places for an outgoing single lady to live? Obviously, I definitely want to live somewhere safe and be near restaurants, shopping, etc., but I also definitely want to have a stressless commute. A stressless commute for me would be 20 minutes or less in the a.m. and p.m. Any recommended areas or websites?

All suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you will be working in Katy, you can live more towards the actual metro part of Houston and still be okay. The majority of traffic will be going the opposite direction as you as many people live out in the suburbs and drive to the city for work.

Katy area covers a wide area and Katy proper is more out west so knowing exactly where you would be would help. Maybe the closest main cross streets.

The best place for younger people who like to be around restaurants and shopping I would have to say is in the Rice Village/West University area. Its a very decent area.

Katy is a nice suburb or outlying area of Houston. There’s Katy Mills Mall & still a decent selection of restaurants. If you’re working in Katy , living close to that area is recommended b/c of the congested freeways in Houston & Katy area. Like the person above said the drive into Houston can be a real pain. Get an EZ tag too so you can go east & west on the Westpark Tollway to save some time. Here is the site where you can purchase the almighty EZ tag. I wouldn’t be able to get around without mine!

Honestly, Katy does have some singles who live & work out there. Just as many as any other part of town besides Mid-Town & Downtown which have the most young, single professionals. Sorry db, I love it but West U is mostly families too.

Midtown is the place to be if you are single. The downside to it is that it is pretty pricey. And you are right in downtown so you would be going against the traffic to get to work in Katy.
I agree that Rice Village area is a good place to be for singles. I’m not sure what the average cost is for that area though.
As long as you live closer into the city then you will be going against traffic to get to work so it shouldn’t be too horrible of a drive.

The Heights is the best place. Its mostly late 20s to mid-30s professionals.

Midtown is good too, but that area is mostly fresh out of college, early 20s folks.

    Katy is definitely the suburbs.
