Any hotel reservation websites that don’t need the stay paid for up front?

Submitted by Review Editor on Sunday, 28 June 20097 Comments

I am trying to book a hotel for just a weekend in late August, the only problem is every website I have been to wants the entire stay paid for up front. I don't mind paying a deposit but I don't like paying everything up front just in case we have to cancel. Are there any hotel reservation websites that don't charge you the entire stay to book?

call any travel website and ask the agent to find a "post paid hotel" for you. this means that you will be able to reserve the room using your credit card but this won't be charged. you will be paying the hotel (using your card or pay in cash) at the time of check out.

Where are you traveling to? Most franchise hotels don't require payment in full, some don't even require a deposit. I have used Holiday Inn often and never paid a deposit.

Go to the hotels website and they may hold your credit card for deposit only. You may pay a higher price than on some sites. When you get to the hotel, ask nicely if there are any discounts or specials at the time. You might get lucky. I've done this a few times and it has worked, but not always.

i just went on a trip in May and stayed at a Best Western. I made my reservations on-line with my credit card. i first called and asked if they charged it when i made the reservation and they said no. when we got there they then asked if i wanted to pay with my card or with cash. so they just used my card to make sure we would pay. try calling the hotel first to make sure.

go directly to the hotel website (most hotels offer the cheapest rate on their own site since they have to pay reservation fees on sites like travelocity). or call directly to the hotel. most hotels will let you reserve a room without a credit card on a 4 or 6 pm courtesy hold. you can always call with your credit card at a later date if you need them to hold your room for late arrival.
